Hola! I’m Lien 👋 I am a PhD student in the Adrem Data Lab at the University of Antwerp under the supervision of prof. dr. Bart Goethals.

I am the lead researcher for Adrem on the Serendipity Engine project. I created RecPack, an experimentation toolkit for top-K recommendation.

Previously I was a machine learning engineer at Froomle and the recipient of a Baekeland mandate (2019-2022) to conduct research in an industry-academia collaboration between Froomle and the Adrem Data Lab.

My research centers around diversity, discovery and serendipity in recommender systems. I enjoy working at the intersection of industry and academia, to tackle research problems that impact real users.
